I've been working towards my Commercial Pilots License over the last two weekends, which is why there haven't been any new posts. Since I'm waiting for the check ride date at this point, I decided to take a leisurely flight up to Lake County Airport (KLKV) in Lakeview, Oregon. The flight going up was smooth for the most part even though I had a 25 knot tailwind. Anything faster than 20 knots over the ridges usually translates to getting bounced around. Groundspeed hit 193 knots on the way up. I did pay the price coming back with a steady 38 knot headwind right on the nose at 9,500 feet. Groundspeed was a pathetic 134 knots coming back to Reno. Lake County is a nice, quiet airport and fuel was fairly cheap at $4.60 a gallon. Over cast skies kept the sun off the gauges and iPad which makes everything easier to see.
